The Five Elements and the Wizard of Oz
September 18, 2007 — tfootittDeborah wrote a fantastic post on the ‘Interior Alignment’ blog which really brings the five elements to life.
“The Five Elements are used to bring a balance in our lives. Usually this means having a balance of all five elements of Fire, Water, Metal, Wood and Earth in our living spaces. But first, let’s understand the Five Elements. L. Frank Baum’s The Wizard Oz illustrates this delightfully! In this tale you can see balanced and imbalanced examples of the five elements.
Cast
Fire: The Wizard
Water: The Cowardly Lion
Metal: The Tin Man
Wood: The Scarecrow
Earth: Dorothy”

The post puts five element theory across in way whch everyone can understand regardless of their TCM knowledge level.
The Five elements also enable us to bring balance to our own lives in addition to the places in which we live.
It’s something that I will definately be using to help me explain TCM to clients and friends who ask about it.
Eric Grey has also written a great post on how to eleviate stress by using the five elements:http://deepesthealth.com/
You can read more on the five elements here: http://www.soton.ac.uk/~maa1/chi/philos/five.htm
This enables you to take a personality test to see which element you are: http://www.lotusinstitute.com/5ElementsQuiz.html
This is what my results came out as: “Based on the traits you selected, your personality is:
Water 25 %, Wood 24 %, Earth 17 %, Metal 15 %, Fire 17 % ”
I’d definately agree that the two area’s presenting predominently at the minute are Water and Wood.
Let me know how you get on with the test, I’d be interested to hear what you think..

What next, alchemy? Totem poles? Rain dances? Tea-leaves and astrology? Phrenology? Biorythyms? TM? Chi? Fairies? Pixies?
If this has any relevance to the real word of biology and healthcare, then we might as well start a rain dance in the garden when the desert season comes!
I’m sure this pseudoscientific garbage sounds mystical and comforting, but it’s like talking seriously about Lord of the Rings or Star Trek! Pssst, it’s not real!

Fire 29 % -Water 22 %-Wood 9%-Earth 16 %-Metal 22 %
Blimey, look at that wood result!! It’s a wonder I’m still breathing.

evanescent - rain dances have been shown to be very successful - when conducted in a proper manner by people who live in true relation to all things . . . and this system has been around for at least 2,000 years - unlike yourself I suspect! But no Star Trek’s not real . . and - have you actually tried it?
My score was Water 24 / Wood 15 / Earth 25 / Metal 17 / Fire 17. . . maybe not too out of kilter?! Perhaps not surprising for a capricorn, with aquarian moon & leo ascendant!! Chuck another log on the fire . . someone!
