Last 3rd year course weekend

Posted by tfootitt on July 15, 2007

My last weekend of the third year course has just ended. It’s a strange feeling knowing that the group isn’t going to be together in that way again, especially as we have been on quite a journey together!

It was a great weekend, reviewing the meridians and other areas that the group wanted to catch up on.

We had a communal lunch which was wonderful. I find it amazing that everyone in the group brings some food to share but there is no duplication. However, it works it is wonderful.

We’ve got some additional one day options, a weeks residential in Herefordshire and then our final assessments at the end of September. Where has the time gone?

I’m going to do additional modules on ‘advanced backs’ and ‘lower burner’ work and am really looking forward to both.

The thesis is going well and definitely has a shape and form of it’s own now. This will be my main focus for the rest of this month, in addition to getting a study plan together ready for the assessments.

The previous weekend I did some taster sessions at the ‘Elf Foods’ shop in Loughborough. The day was really enjoyable and went well. One of the biggest obstacles seemed to be using the name ‘Shiatsu’.

People just don’t know what it means. I guess one of the things for me to reflect upon is how I explain Shiatsu to people in terms that they understand without going into too much information. Not everyone is interested in Traditional Chinese Medicine or wants to be given a watered down’ dummy’s guide’.

In the end I started talking about it as massage / body work and then discussing any dis-ease that they had and how Shiatsu could potentially help. This worked but still needs to be buffed up.
